Our buss class is one of the more
popular classes. We had 26 students sign up for this class cutting up
three busses. This class offers a good hands on training looking at the
problems of mass casualty and gaining access to the patients within a bus.
We had two high quality
instructors in the field of large vehicle extrication teach our this
class. Mr. Steve Hartsock from Avon Fire Department, Avon Indiana,
Mr. Tom Bottoms from Phoenix Rescue Tools. Be sure to visit the
Avon Fire Department and
Phoenix Rescue Tool Web sites.
3. Semi Truck Extrication
For this class we had 5 semi tractor
trailers on hand to practice stabilization, extrication. The students learned
weaknesses and strengths of working with big trucks. There were 23
students in this class who had the advantage of Carol "Speedy" Hill from
Omaha and Capt. Craig Oswald from Hastings Fire & Rescue. If you would
like any further information about class or would like to set us a Semi Truck
Extrication class at your department be sure to e-mail either Carol Hill or
Capt. Craig Oswald. e-mail
Carol
"Speedy" Hill or
Capt. Craig Oswald. You can also visit Carol Hill's
Web Site.
4. Grain Entrapments Extrication
The objective of this
class is to reduce the number of fatal grain entrapments in the grain storage,
handling facilities, and transportation vehicles. To develop optimal first
response and rescues procedures for emergency personnel responding to grain
entrapments. To increase awareness of the hazards of grain entrapments to rescue
personnel.
The instructor for
the Grain Entrapment Class was Lt. Todd Brehm from the Hastings Fire & Rescue.
If you would like any further information about this class contact Lt. Brehm.

Lt. Brehm.
5. Airplane
Extrication
This class will cover
systems and structures of many of the common aircraft that operate in Central
Nebraska.
6. Rope Rescue
This class consisted of
hands-on scenarios of rope rescue. This class included a below grade rope
rescue,
getting the patient up a steep incline. Another scenario was getting a patient
down from a Cell Tower. Other scenarios are still in the planning stages..
This was an
advanced rope rescue class. A working knowledge of knots and ropes,
ascending and descending devices was required for this class. If you
would like any further information about this class or would like to schedule a
Rope Rescue class for your department, contact Troy Hughes from the Grand
Island Fire Department. Troy is the Training Division Chief with the Grand
Island Fire Department. You can contact Troy through the
Nebraska Fire Marshal's Office
or e-mail TDC Hughes.
7. Trench Rescue
The collapse of the trench
creates more hazard to the rescuer than that of the victims. This class
will discuss managing a trench rescue, and learn to have a safe rescue during
the Trench Rescue Operation.
8. Confined
Space Rescue
This class will cover the
removal of a worker from a confined space. You will find that a confined
space rescue is a difficult and challenging undertaking. Hands on
experience is invaluable in dealing with this type of a rescue.
Mr. Rick Grauerholz

Class. If you would like further information about this class, or would
