Extrication Weekend Class Outline

Basic Car Extrication

This class will cover the basics of passenger vehicle extrication and the associated tools and techniques through participation in class discussion and practical activities.  The student will gain knowledge of scene operation, vehicle stabilization, hand and power tool use, vehicle entry and disentanglement, full protective gear will be required.

AWARE

Air-Water-A Radio then Extrication, The  AWARE principle is a new way for Rapid Intervention Teams to organize the task of rescuing disabled firefighters. The first step is to keep the firefighter alive.
Air - keep the firefighters SCBA supplied with air.
Water - provide charged hose lines to protect the area.
A Radio - provide communication between the rescue site and command post.
Extrication - extricate the disabled firefighter.
New skills and techniques were developed for the AWARE principle that will be taught in this class.

School Bus Extrication

This class will be for the more advanced student and will take an in depth look at school bus extrication.  Classroom instruction will cover the construction of different types of school busses, the problem associated with using power and hand tools during the extrication process, the best tools to use on different parts of the busses and the proper areas to gains access.  This is a hands of class, protective gear will be required.

Airplane Extrication

This class will be for the advanced student and will cover systems and structures of many of the common aircraft that operate in Central Nebraska.  Good Samaritan Hospital will bring in Air Care for systems and procedural instructions.
Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division will have hands on extrication with their Ag-Spray Plane simulator.
Class will also cover Ultra Light Aircraft and the Ballistic Safety Parachute. 

Police Car Extrication

We're offering a new class this year with a different twist to basic car extrication.  A Police Cruiser has additional problems you will encounter when trying to extricate your patient or patients.

Semi Truck Extrication

This class will cover an in depth look at Semi Tractor extrication and the associated tools and techniques through participation in class discussion and practical activities.  The student will gain knowledge of scene operations, vehicle stabilization, hand and power tool use, vehicle entry and disentanglement.  Class room will cover knowledge in the construction of different types of Semi's, the problems associated with using power and hand tools during the extrication process and the proper areas to gain access.

Confined Space Rescue

This class will cover the removal of a victim from a confined space.  You will find that a confined space rescue is a difficult and challenging undertaking.  Hands on experience is invaluable in dealing with this type of a rescue.  A prerequisite of SCBA and Ropes & Knots is required for this class.

Advanced Rope Rescue

This class will consist of hands-on scenarios of rope rescue .The class will do high angle repels.  This is an advanced rope class so a  prerequisite of a working knowledge of ropes and knots, ascending and descending devices is required for this class.

  Due to this years increased demand in the Extrication Weekend classes along with the limited class size, we are only taking pre-registrations for the classes. You can contact Hastings Fire & Rescue for a brochure and registration or you can download a registration form off the net.  Fill out the Registration From and send it in with your class fee of $40.00, we'll confirm you registration by e-mail.
